So I’m in the market for something new. I want to try something different, and get something that has super low depreciation, or that might even appreciate. It must be 2010 or newer, and under 100k. I’ve considered the c63 black, zr1, and the cayman gt4, with a side of a 997.1 gt3 or manual 997 turbo. Anything else I should consider, I want something fun. Something I can drive on the street is a must, with nothing too exotic. (Something like a viper acr is too hardcore.) I figured you guys would have some ideas, and I'm open to a lot of things. Reliability is also a plus for me.

I love the Vantage, and the GT is even under $100K, but those deppreciate a lot. I would suggest Cayman GT4, but I’ve heard that those are pretty hard to get. I also love the Viper, so maybe a TA or a GTS? What about a 997.2 GTS? Those look amazing and are way cheaper than GT3’s (for obvious reasons).

For fun? 996TT or early Z06 C6. So much car for so little money.

That said, if it is an investment car, I’d consider an NSX or, if you can find one, a cherry (huge emphasis on cherry) E39 M5 or CTS-V.

“I said 2010+”

Which is nonsensical. Let someone else pay the depreciation. The money saved can pay for YEARS of maintenance and repairs. And if you can’t pay cash for the car, then there are better uses for your money long-term than trying to show off by buying an expensive car.

Probably 911?

porsche is probably a good marque to dig into. they have several models that will check your boxes. the gt4s though, because there arent enough of them around, might be a bit difficult to find <100k. the 997 turbos would be a good option. especially the cars with a few miles on them. they will have already lost a bit of their value.
the 997 GTS might also be something to consider.

dont know how big/tall of a guy you are, but what about a lotus exige?

I really would rather go newer. I have my fair share of older cars, but modern cars are more comforting with me. The car it's replacing will be a w221 I purchased new, I know about depreciation. I was looking at z06 carbon editions, and it's up there on the list but it's not as special as a car as say the zr1. If I were to bend the rules, I'd pick up a f430 tomorrow. I'm just looking for something that won't loose that much in value, something that will gain value is just a plus for me.

The vantage is just sex, but I too feel they’ll just drop like a rock as soon as it’s replacement is out. Gt4 is high on the list, but it’s right at gt3 price point and it’s conflicting with me. If I went viper I’d get the acr, but the gts are dropping into the 70’s now and I’m not sure if the acr is 40-50k more car. Gts is too much like my m3 (performance wise), but I’ll still consider it. Thanks for the ideas!

There’s definitely a few on my list of possible next cars.

I wouldn’t fit in a lotus, that’s for sure. My understanding of the gt4’s is they aren't limited production. I have good history with my local Porsche dealer, so I probably could pick one up if they aren't. I'm in no rush so if I decide on the gt4 I'll probably pick one up after the buying rush is over.

I think you’re underestimating the z06. It is the superior track car imo, but more relevant to your requirements- it is the last naturally aspirated 427 corvette. Doubtful there will be another.

The old zr1 was super charged. Cool at the time. But guess what? The next gen c7 z06 is too. I feel that discounts the c6 zr1 some.

The c6 z06 I think will go down as one of the best corvettes ever.

How about a rossion?

I’m all for the c6 z06 truly, but a noble in the US is rare and should hold value, as they are quite rare. That would be a cool car to have

Rossion Q1? It’s basically a more liveable M400 (same TT Ford V6 powerplant Noble’s used for like ever) with a sub-3-second 0-60 time and pulls 1.1G in the corners. I don’t know about depreciation but it seems like they all trade in the mid-70’s regardless of year and condition.

agree- the ZR1 will hold their value, but I’ll bet the c6 Z06s do even better.

F-Type.

Aston Martin.

Shelby GT1000.

F type: Yea, it’s a jag, it’ll depreciate bad!

Aston Martin: Very iffy on this one, I want a vantage gt bad but it’s not the best idea.

Shelby gt1000: Good idea! Totally forgot about this one. I might kill myself with all that power, but what a hell of a death it would be. I'll consider it.

Buy the Jag or Aston used/CPO, depreciation already took its toll.

The GT1000 was mostly because of how high your budget is. GT50/750 would be more than adequate.

I’ve pretty much discussed this same question with Rusto many many many times..

-R8 V10 Manual, last manual R8 and it’s even gated. The R8 is actually very reliable, and can definitely be daily driven. Rusto and I are both watching the market really closely.

-a mint E92 M3 lime rock park (you already have an M3, but this will depreciate far less)

-Low mileage 911 turbo. A 996tt just sold at my local Porsche dealer for $52k. My buddy there called me and told me if I agreed to that out the door it would be mine, he said some people were coming in offering to pay over that. It was a clean 996 with full records and low miles, but still. The turbo will depreciate very very slowly while being a really reliable car. I would daily a 997.2 turbo if I could. Great choice, albeit a little “boring” (you could have a manual Aston or other more “exotic” car for the money).

-F430 would be good if you want to dip your feet into the Ferrari world. Maintenance isn’t too bad (well.. For a Ferrari haha) but you'd be looking at a little over $100k for now

I think 2010 is still a bit too new for true “bottom of the depreciation curve” deals. That said, you could probably find some good deals on AMG benzes or Jags, or Astons.

My choice on recent bottom of the depreciation curve cars is 996tt, DB9, AMG anything (e63 wagon for me), or hot Jags.

I considered the v10 with the gated manual, but other then the powertrain I’m just not attracted to it. I know they’re the most reliable of supercars, but I don’t know if it’s the styling, I just don’t care much about them. The Lamborghini gallardo doesn’t do much for me either

I’m keeping my m3 until the wheels fall off most likely, and having two seems like overkill, but that’s why I was considering the c63 black. I love this class of car. I also thought about a 1m, but again, it seems too similar to the m3.

90% settled on a Porsche of some sort before I made this post. Some of these replies reminded me of the gts, and I totally forget what a bargain they are especially on the used market (I’m a huge n/a lover, but the power of the turbo is nice). I’ve always loved Porsches, but I wanted to see what other options were out there. But now I’m really looking for a gts with the aero package as the more I think of which car I’d like, the more I’m thinking if I want the gts or gts 4.

The want for a f430 is extremely hard but my location puts that as to conspicuous. A f car in my area would gather way too much attention. Hell even a Porsche would have quite a bit of attention in my area but a lot less so then something Italian and loud. That and the Ferrari maintance scares me if something big goes wrong.

Speaking of Rusto, where has he been? Haven't seen him on here since he changed his username into something about manuals.

Totally get what you mean about the R8. I felt the very same way until I got the chance to hoon one. The C63 black had always been a car I liked.. It’s a hot rod! I recently picked up a C300 and it’s had me warming up to Mercedes a lot more, and making me think of what could have been.. If the C63 offered a manual I really would have ordered a new C63 coupe 2 years ago.

You have the right idea with Porsche.. A 997.2 GTS or if I wait a little longer (and they depreciate much more haha) a 991 GTS will likely be my next car purchase. It’s perfectly capable of being daily driven and they are SO good. They hold value pretty well but don’t expect a GTS to be an investment. You’ll love it so much you’ll be putting miles on it crazy fast!

He’s just taking a break from kinja while work is super busy for him.
